Epidemiological Analysis on Venereal Diseases from 1984 through 2003 in Leshan City

Objective The study described in this paper was designed to have a better understanding of the epidemic trends and characteristics of venereal diseases in Leshan so as to provide a scientific basis for the government instituting prevention and cure countermeasures. Methods Epidemic data of venereal diseases from 1984 to 1993 and 1994 to 2003 were analyzed statistically by software SPSS 10.0 Re-sults The morbidity in the latter decade increased 8.14 times with disease entities ascending from 5 to 8.Gonorrhea and condyloma acuminatum predominated in both decades，but the component ratio of the former decreased to a larger extent.The ratio was reversed for condyloma acuminatum. The ratio of male to female descended from 2.46：1 to 2.25：1 and the morbidity in groups aged 20 and 30 were a mong the highest in both cases.But it displayed a down tendency in groups aged 20 and 15 As for cultural cornposition，middle and primary school graduates formed the large majority，whereas the number of people at primary-school level and illiterates exhibited a decreasing trend. Additionally，workers and farmers predominatad in the occupation cornposition However，the number showed a down tendency.Conclusion The epidemic remains tough and it is critical for medical agencies to standardize diagnostic and therapeutic measures against STD and enhance propaganda and education about venereal diseases.
