Study on Animal-wounded urban Inhabitants and Inoculation with rabies Vaccine in Jingning City in 2002 and 2003

  • Objective The condition of animal-wounded urban inhabitants and inoculation against rabies in 2002 and 2003 was to be delinitely known. Methods By employing unified Hygienic and Anti-epi-demic Station forms concerning suspected rbies sufferers and the people exposed to it investigations were made on those wounded by animals and inoculated against rabies at the case investigation of Jining City in 2002 and 2003 Results In those two years 3 556 people were wounded by animals,with an annual av-erage wound rate of 4450/100000. No rabies patient was found. July and August were at the peak of the wound The vicims were in the main young and middle-aged individuals,who accounted for 68.73%,with a ration of 1.02:1(P>0.05)between males and females,mostly workers(40.73%)as well as pupils and studnts(18.13%). Among the animals,the dog accounted for 85.67%,the cat being the next. Among the victims,63.14% were wounded in the upper limbs,and 30.20% in the lower limbs and 4.56% in the head,face and neck,with 84.17 bitten and 15.22% scratche 93.15% of the victims received medical treatment wihin 24 hours.For 90.13% of them,the wound was bathed and disinfected.The rate of inocaulation against rabies was 97.23% Counclusion The number of animal-wounded urban inhabitants in Jining has been numerous,but has been significantly reduced after effective control of dog keeping There has been a higher rate of inoculation against rabies among victims.
