Analysis on Implementation of DOTS Strategies and the Sputum Smear of Tuberculosis Patients in Pre- and Post-treatment with DOT in Tiandong ounty

  • Objective The present study was designed to analyze the sputum smear of tuberculosis(TB) patients in pre-and post-implementation of direct observed treatment short-course (DOTS) strategies and direct observed treatment (DOT).Methods Registered TB cases in 2004 and the sputum smear of TB epidemic report from 1999 to 2003 in Tiandong county were statistically analyzed. Results The number and rate of people detected sputum and rate of sputum smear positive (SS+) in pre-implementation of DOTS strategies were lower than that in post-one.The rate of SS+for patients of first visit to a doctor was higher than for those of referring before implementation of DOT.The prevalence of SS+in farmers was higher than that in cadres and workers, and in male was higher than in female. After implementation of DOT,the rate of sputum smear negative patients of first visit was higher than that of referring among infants aged 2 months and from 6 to 8 months. Conclusion The convergence case-management of TB should be strengthened, and especially health propaganda and education in rural area should be emphasized toenable TB patients to receive general check-upguided chemotherapy and management timely.Above arethe most effective measures for detecting.Curing TB patients with SS+ and further controlling TB epidemic.
