Analysis on Students' Eyesight Examination of Senior High School from 1991 to 2005 in Taizhou City

  • Objective This study was conducted to understand the prevalence of poor eyesight of senior high school students to provide the scientific evidence for protecting the eyesight of pri-mary and secondary school students.Methods The data of eyesight examination of senior high school students from 1991 to 2005 was statistically analyzed.The students whose naked eyesight was less than 5.0 were recognized as poor eyesight.The rectified eyesight was examined using rectified eyeglass when the eyesight of student was less than 4.8,and recorded their diopters under the highest and the lowest eyesight.The poor eyesight was divided into light,moderate and heavy.Results The lowest rate of poor eyesight was 72.43% in 1991,and then,it increased year after year.The highest rate was 90.49% in 2002.The poor eyesight rate in female students was re-markable higher than that in male students for a period of 15 years (PPP<0.005).Conclusion The poor eyesight of high school students was still not efficiently controlled and had been increasing year after year.The educational,health department,school,family and community should pay attention to this.
