Analysis on the Epidemiological Characteristics of Measles in 2004 in Fuzhou City

Objective This study was designed to understand the epidemiological characteristics of measles and explore the strategies of strengthening the control of measles．Methods The descriptive study was performed to analyze the epidemic of measles in 2004 in Fuzhou city based on the data from the conventional report system of communicable diseases．Results (1) The reported incidence of measles was 5.98 per 100,000 in 2004．The disease presented an epidemic feature of both sporadic and local outbreak．Outbreak cases accounted for 14.25％ of the total cases．The high incidence of measles was seen between April and September，and the high risk population fell into children aged from 5 years to 10 years．Those who had a history of measles vaccination accounted for 11.23％ of all cases，while those without the history 22.74％，those of unknown immunization 66.03％，the nomadic population 37.26％ of total cases．Conclusion The conventional immunization of measles vaccines still needs to be strengthened．And at the same time，the fortified immunization of measles vaccines among elder children should be reinforced．The immunization coverage rate of the flow population is to be increased to enhance immunization among population and prevent control the outbreak of measles．
