Abstract
Objective The aim of this work was to study the nutritional status of primary and secondary school students in Taizhou City to provide scientific data for the development of nutrition education and
explore the relationship between nutrional status and eyesight among students. Methods The height,body weight and eyesight were tested based on“General rules of monitor techniques for health status in students”Nutritional status was evaluated in 1185 primary and secondary students by“Weight for Height”recommended by WHO and“Screening standards of weight for height”in Chinese school-aged adolescents and juveniles”Results The rate of poor nutritional status in primary and secondary students was 59.24% with the rate of malnutrition being 5.15%,higher than that of national average level (P<0.01)The rate of low body weight was 39.75%,higher in male sludents and secondary students The rates of overweight and obesity were 5.94% and 8.86%,respectively.The obesity rate of primary students was higher than that of secondaary students and the national average level(p<0.01).The rate of poor eyesight was decreased with improved nutritional status. Condusion There are both malutrition and nutritonal excesses in primary and secondary students.Currently priorties in the improvement of stu dent’s nutrition should be put to promotion of sound nutrition and balanced diet.And the eyesight may be closely associated with their nutritional status.
