Analysis on Epidemiological Characteristics of AIDS from 1992 through 2004 in Suzhou City

Objective This investigation was intended to characterize AIDS epidemics from 1992 through 2004 in the city of Suzhou to provide a scientific basis for thc formulation of preventive and ther apeutic measures. Methods Statistical analysis was performed of AIDS cpidemic reports and the data collected during the investigation from 1992 through 2004．Results HIV／AIDS in the city of Suzhou showed an increasing trend. 78.09％ of the victims were at the age of 20 to 40 years，with males ac-counting for 67.62％ andthose whose education was only at Junior high school level for 30.48％ Those having no regular work constituted 31.25％ of the total, vaginal scx is the main route of transmission (47.63) The proportion of HIV／AIDS infected males to females was 1.6:1 in 2004，lower than that of 2.63:1 in 2003，but the proportion。Of female infectiof,of the disease increased significantly Condusion Survelllance of HIV／AIDS should be strengthened and active and effective measures must be taken in order to curb spread of AIDS in the city of Suzhou.
