Analysis of Deaths from Malignant Tumors and of Life Span Reduction from 1984 through 2003 in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City

Objective The present analysis was designed to determine the mortality of malignant tu-mors and its changing tendency Methods Data of deaths collected by the disease surveillance system were used for assessing the changing trend of mortality of malignancies by linear regreasion analysis．Re-sults The total death rate of malignant tumors had taken on a trend of significant increase during the period of 20 years in the district，with adjusted mortality rate being 107. 42／10，000，which WaS ranked as the third cause of all deaths. An increasing tendency in mortality rate was seen in the age group of over 60 years. Mortality rate of lung cancer，carcinoma of esophagus in malea，bowel cancer in females displayed a trend of significant increase displayed an increasing trend. There was a decreasing tendency in the rate of life-span reduction of all cause of death. The average life expectancy reduction by malignant tumors was 2.52 years，and when tumors were excluded the average life expectancy increased by 3.47％. Conclusion Countermeasure aiming directly at the changes should be taken to decrease the risk of malignant tumors among loca residents.
