An Investigation and Analysis of Anemia Among Primary and Secondary School Students from 1999 through 2003 in Yangquan City.

Objective The present investigation and analysis were intended tO understand anemia situ-ation among primary and secondary school students from 1999 through 2003 in the city of Yangquan tO provide a sound basis for the prevention and treatment of the disease in the future．Methods Cluster sampling was used tO monitor anemia of primary and secondary school students in 20 schools for 5 con-secutive years．Results 68414 students in 20 schools were tested and the total rate of anemia was 9.23％．The prevalence was higher among females than among males．Statistically there being a significant difference between the sexes(X2=614.86, P<0.005)．It was showed that the morbidity rate among senior high school students was the highest，with that of junior high school and primary school students being the second and third respectively．The prevalence of anemia decreased every year, the rate having been in line with the national standards(<10％) since 2001．Conclusion Great progress has made in the prevention and treatment of anemia among secondary and primary school students in Yangquan city．However. Negligence is still not allowed in terms of the management of the disease．
