Analysis on Epidemic and Control Situation of Dengue Fever in Shantou City

Objective This analysis was designed to learn about the epidemic characteristics and fac-tots for prevalence of dengue fever (DF)in Shantou in order to discuss and explore prophylactic and con- troI countermeasures．Methods Analysis was conducted in terms of DF monitoring and epidemiologicaI investigation data in Shantou from 1999 to 2003．Results During this period，there was a total of 178 cases of DF reported，involving 44 blocks in 6 districts．It was found that most cases occurred from September tO November，with a primary manifestation of typical DF，and population at all ages was sub-ject tO this disease．Conclusion The epidemic situation of DF in Shantou closely correlates with its counterparts in coterminous cities and the distribution of epidemic regions is highly congregated，given the vulnerability of populations to DF．Natural condition，resident condition and living habits of citizens are related factors tO the prevalence of epidemic．It is crucial to the prevention and cure of DF to strengthen monitoring force，be intimately alert to the dynamic trend of DF in neighboring cities and successively dispatch environmental improvement and anti-mosquito work．
