Virological Monitoring and Analysis on Cases of Acute Flaccid Paralysis in Hebei Province of 2003

  • Objective This analysis was designed to make use of the monitoring function of virology. Methods Viruses were isolated and identified according to operational regulations in Testing Manual for Poliovirus, and PCR-RFLP was adopted to identify the isolated type of virus strains at National Po-liomyelitis Laboratory. Results Each lab monitoring index of poliomyelitis remained at a high level in Hebei of 2003.43 strains of poliomyelitis virus (PV) were isolated from AFP feces samples, with a rate of 11.62%,in addition to 49 strains of non-poliomyelitis enterovirus (NPEV),with an isolation rate of 13.24%.A1I PVs were sent for typing identification at National Poliomyelitis Laboratory. The result of which showed that except two vaccine variant strains. Others were alI vaccine-related strains. Conclusion Three cells can improve the isolation rate of PV.Moreover, both RD and Hep-2 cells are important for enhancing the isolation rate of NPEV which has relevance with months.
