Epidemiological Analysis on Epidemic Cerebrospinal Meningitis Occurring in 2004 in Donggan City and Investigation of Preventive and Therapeutic Countermeasures

  • Objective This study was conducted to better understand the characteristics of the epi demic situation of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis in 2004 in Donggan city to furnish the basis for the formulation of preventive and therapeutic tactics Methods Descriptive study and anlytical study were used to analyze the epidermic situation of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis in 2004 in Dongwan. The bacterial strain was determined and its sensitivity was tested with paper disc method Results it was found that sporadic epidermic cerebrospinal meningitis was predominant in Donggan with occasional out breaks The nonative young laborers were of high-risk population susceptible to epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis The dominant bacterial strain of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis and its resistance to drugs had a major change Conclusion it is recommended that extensive vaccination of vaccine A+C strains for epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis is to be implemented among nonnative young laborers Drugs such as rifampicin to which meningococcal bacteria are sensitive can be used as preventive drugs in the man agement of the epidemic
