Analysis on Epidemiological Features of AIDS and Its Trend In the City of Shaoxin

  • Objective The present study was made to investigate the epidemiological features of HIV/AIDS to provide a scientific basis for the formulation of preventive and therapeutic strategies.Methods Data from routine and sentinel AIDS surveillance from 1995 to 2004 in the citv Of Shaoxin were analyzed.Results 56 cases of HIV/AIDS,including 5 deaths of 6 AIDS sufferers,were reported from 1995 tO 2004 in the whole city.Young and middle aged population were predominantly affected with the ratio of male tO female being 5.22:1.Drag abuse was a main route of transmission (50%), with mother to child transmission also seen.OnlY 27.80% Of unlicensed prostitutes used condom in their sexual contacts.Conclusion It is seen that AIDS prevalence is accelerated in the city of Shaoxin.And actions should be taken tO prevent HIV infection from transmission from high-risk population to general population,including reinforcing health education,behavioral interventions and surveillance.
