Anal ysis of injury incidence rate in countryside of 4 counties

  • Objective The present survey was conducted to collect information about injury incidence rate in population in some rural areas to provide a basis for the formulation of strategies for injury interventions. Methods Family members in 20,000 families in 4 rural communities were chosen through randomized sampling to review the injuries of their family members. Results The total injury incidence rate in the 4 rural communities was 50.7‰,with accidental fall, animal injuries, impact and crush injuries, cut and stab injuries, burn injuries, traffic accidents, and accidental poisoning being commonest causes。The total injury incidence rate in males and females were 65.1‰ and 35.8‰ respectively.Animal injuries were the most common injuries in children aged 0-14 years, and while traffic accidents were ranked at the top of the injury list in the age group of 15-34 years. And fall injury was the main injury in seniors over 60 years. Conclusion The spectrum of mortality duo to injuries is not the same as that of morbidly.Distribution of injuries varies with sex and age groups.Stratigies for interventions with injuries should be devised based on different target population and the causes of injuries.
