Antibody Test of Different SARS Pathogens in the Serum Samples of the Clinically Diagnosed Cases of Infectious Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

  • Objective The present study was designed to study the distribution of different common SARS pathogen antibodies in the serum samples of the clinically diagnosed cases of infectious Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).Methods Totally 90 serum samples of clinically diagnosed cases during the SARS epidemic in 2003 and 40 serum samples of healthy volunteers were chosen for the serum antibody test. Results In the 90 serum samples of cases clinically diagnosed infectious SARS in the acute stage, the SARS antibodies of 21.1%(19/90) samples were positive, and those of the remaining 79.9%(71/90) samples were negative. The antibody tests of mycoplasma pneumoniae, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus,Legionella and Chlamydia pneumonia presented different distributions. Conclusion During the SARS epidemic in 2003,it was possible that the clinically diagnosed cases of the infectious SARS with negative SARS antibody contained or were combined with other pathogenic infections.
