Analysis on the epidemiological characteristics of Type B hepatitis in Xuchang city from 1991 to 2005.

Objective The present study was conducted to get the knowledge of the incidence situation and epidemiological characteristics of Type B hepatitis in Xuchang city and provide sci-entific basis for establishing strategy for prevention and control．Methods Descriptive epidemio-logical method was adopted to conduct the statistical analysis on epidemic data of Type B hepatitis in Xuchang city from 1991 to 2005．Results 26451 cases with Type B hepatitis were reported in Xuchang from 1991 to 2005 with an annual average reported incidence of 40.82/lakh．From 2000 to 2005，reported incidence showed a fast increasing tendency．From 1991 to 2005，incidences in all age groups all increased fast．The incidence of Type B hepatitis increased slowly in children aged below 14 years old．Peasants accounted for a large part of cases，which were almost 56.43％ of the total number of cases with Type B Hepatitis．Conclusion The reported incidence Of Type B Hepatitis showed a gradually increasing tendency from 2000 to 2005．The work of Type B Hepatitis vaccination as well as the sensitivity of communicable diseases surveillance sys-tem should be strengthened．
