An analysis of clinical and resistace data on nosocomial Klebsiella pneumonia

  • Objective This analysis was done to investigate the risk factors, clinical characteris-tics and drug resistance of nosocomial Klebsiella pneumonia for the guidance of rational medica-tion use and prevention and control of the disease. Methods Clinical data on the cases who had had a definitive diagnosis of nosocomial infection of Klebsiella pneumonia were collected and drug sensitivity was performed with the isolated strains. Results It was found from 96 cases tha tnosocomial infection of Klebsiella pneumonia was more common in the aged and ICU patients having serious underlying diseases.Over 85% of all the patients had experienced various or multi-pie invasive procedures and received antibiotics. The lower respiratory tract was most commonly involved by the pathogens, which were resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides and quinolone antimicrobial agents, particularly with the rate of the resistance to cefotaxime and ceftd-axone increasing yearly. Conclusion Nosocomial infection of Klebsiella pneumonia frequently OC-curs in patients with serious underlying diseases and/or expierieces in invasive procedures and/or use of antimicrobial agents. The lower respiratory tract is most commonly involved.Multidrug re-sistance is one of the characteristics of the pathogens.
