In vestigation and analysis of newly registered cases of pulmonary tuberculosis among the undergraduates in an institution of higher learning from 1990 to 2004

Objective The present investigation was made to understand the morbid process of pulmonary tuberculosis among undergraduates and to evaluate the efficacy of measures taken．Methods The epidemic situation of tuberculosis in the university from 1990 to 2004 was monitored and analyzed．Results There were 183 undergraduates who were newly found to suffer from tuberculosis from 1990 to 2004，of whom 23 cases had a positive sputum smear．The average annual incidence was 115.28/lakh with the rate of positive sputum smear being 12.57％．Conclusion The registration rate of tuberculosis among undergraduates in the university presents an increasing trend．Surveillance and prevention and treatment of tuberculosis among university undergraduates should be reinforced to decrease the incidence and control outbreak of the disease
