Analysis of accidental death among working population at the disease surveillance sites in Fujian Province from 1990 to 1994

Objective This study was designed to get an insight into the situation of accidental death among working population in Fujian Province．Methods Standardized mortality rate and PYLL rate were used to analyze the data on accidental death among working population at the dis-ease surveillance sites from 1990 to 1994 in Fujian Province．Resuits It was found that the standardized mortality rate and standardized PYLL rate among working population at the disease surveillance sites from 1990 to 1994 in Fujian Province were 39.9/lakh-68.8/lakh and 11.5‰-29.6‰．Respectively．”Premature death”was predominant in terms of accidental death with suicide ranked the first(27.8％)，drown the second(19.9％)and traffic accidents(14.5％)the third as far as the average standardized PYLL rate was concerned．The PYLL rate of working population on various jobs was significantly higher in the rural areas than in the cities．Currently，drown of po—tential labors，suicide of young females in countrvside and traffic accidents of males became the maior causes of accidental death．Conclusion It Is seen that accidental death iS a major cause of death of working population in Fujian Province，with suicide，drown and traffic accidents being the chief culprits．Study on the risk factors of the causes of death and implementation of effective in-terventions should be taken as important subjects in the field of public health．
