Epidemiological Investigation of Partial Androgen Deficiency in Aging Male(PADAM) in the Island Area

Objective The present study was designed to understand the situation of PADAM in the island area. Methods A method of multi-stage sampling was adopted，and in this method，612 cases of ageing males aged 45 years or more were selected to conduct self-evaluation of PADAM symptom and determination of androgen level in peripheral veRous blood，and a PADAM diagnosis was performed according to relevant standards，and at the same time，the morbidity rate among people was evaluated based on the principle of binomial distribution． Different age groups were compared with analysis of variance or chi-square test．Results The self-evaluation of PADAM symptom showed that the PADAM morbidity rate among ageing people was 39.87％(95％CL：35.99％-43.75％)，the difference among age groups had a statistical significance (PCL：27.06％-34.38％)，and expect that the lutetropin level and Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) increased with age，the total testosterone，free testosterone，and the index for flee testosterone. Etc．alI decreased with age．Conclusion The PADAM morbidity rate among ageing people in island area of Zhoushan was relative high，and there existed difference among age groups．In the future，relevant study on PADAM should be furthered SO as to provide scientific evidence for improving the physical and psychological health of ageing males，as well as their living quality．
