Analysis on the epidemiological characteristics of pertussis in He'nan Province from 2000 to 2004

Objective This study was conducted to understand the present epidemic situation of pertussis in He'nan Province，and SO provide evidence for the formulation of immunization strategy and forecast of epidemic trend．Methods A descriptive analysis was conducted for the epidemic situafion in He'nan Province from 2000 to 2004，SO as to know the incidence level and epidemic characteristics．Results In recent five years，the incidence rate of pertussis in He'nan Province was the lowest historically，and the cases of incidence were still mainly people aged below 15 years．The period from June to August was of peak incidence，and there was local prevalence of the disease in East He'nan．Conclusion At present, prevention and control of pertussis still focus on preschool children．Conventional immunization for children should be well done definitely，and at the same time epidemic situation monitoring should be strengthened with source of infection found timely and well managed，and local fulminant epidemic prevented．
