Analysis on monitoring results for drinking water of 34 schools in Wencheng County

  • Objective The study was to investigate the situation of drinking water in schools all over the county after typhoon and rainstorm SO as to prevent the incidence of infectious diseases,as well as to resolve the existing problems.Methods Total 34 schools of the county were con-ducted a spot check,in which 20 samples of self-prepared water and 23 samples of tap water were assayed according to GB5750-85 "Standard test method for drinking water" and the"Stipu-lations on hygiene of drinking water" of 2000 version formulated by the Ministry of health.The indexes for the test were mainly chroma,turbidity,PH,the total hardness,Fe,Mn,ammonia ni-trogen,nitrite nitrogen,nitrate nitrogen,sulfate,fluoride,colony forming unit(cfu),total coliform,and fecal coliform.Results In the 20 samples of self-prepared water,the pass rates of total col-iform and fecal coliform were the lowest,and both 20%,while in the 23 samples of tap water,the pass rate of turbidity was the lowest.Only 4.3%.Conclusion A serious hygienic problem in drinking water quality exists in schools all over Wencheng County,and the drinking water samples from different sources (self-prepared water or tap water)ale basically unacceptable.
