Abstract
Objective This study was made to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of AIDS based on the surveillance results of the epidemic in Jinhua City from 1987 through 2005,providing a basis for the formulation of strategies for the prevention and control of AIDS.Methods Statistical analysis were performed on the data from AIDS surveillance and epidemiological management in Jinhua City. Results 94 HIV-infected cases were reported from 1987-2005 in Jinhua City with 14 AIDS patients included.Young adults were predominantly affected with the ratio of male to female being 2.92:1.Intravenous drug use and sexual contact were the major routes of transmission, accounting for 46.80% and 39.36% respectively.47.87% of
all the infected received only elementary school education or even lower.Among the HIV-infected individuals, permanent residents accounted for 31.00% of all the infected with transmission through
sexual activities constituting 79.31% and through HIV positive spouses/sexual partners 24.13%.Surveillance was done on 122 180 individuals from vulnerable population from 1987 to 2005,with positive HIV antibody found in 87 cases (positive rate O.07%).Conclusion The AIDS epidemic trends in Jinhua City have developed from the introduction phase to the spreading phase. The epidemic is spreading from high-risk population to general population with family HIV transmissions having occurred. It is expected that HIV infections will increase substantially,SO greater efforts need to be made to strengthen the prevention and control of the epidemic.
