Abstract
Objective The present analysis was conducted to ascertain the trends of HIV-TB coinfection in patients with HIV/AIDS in order t0 facilitate the prevention and control of HIV-TB coinfection.Methods All the registered HIV/AIDS patients were screened through symptoms,chest X-ray films,sputum smears and cultures.Results 96.1%(5863/6100)of all the registered HIV/AIDS patients actually received the screening tests,which found 28 cases of active tuberculo-sis(477.6/lakh).The detection rate was 793.6/lakh among males and 193.5/lakh among females with a statistically significant difference between the sexes confirmed by X2 test.It was found the rate was highest among those in 30-and 40-year age groups.Accounting for 78.6% of the total that were detected to have tuberculosis.Sputum smear was positive in 13 cases with a positive smear rate of 221.0/lakh.Conclusion HIV/AIDS patients.Of high-risk population for TB infec-tion,should be regularly screened for TB for early detection and early management.Teaching the-ses patients the prevention of TB need to be strengthened.
