Establishment and evaluation of the surveillance system of communicable disease outbreaks in the City of Shenzhen

Objective The present study was conducted to make epidemiological analysis on the operation results of communicable disease Outbreak surveillance system in the City of Shenzhen in 2005 and probe into the modes and significances of implementing communicable disease cluster and epidemic Outbreak surveillance with the aid of computer information system．Methods Active surveillance was conducted on the epidemic situation repots of notifiable communicable disease with collection of epidemic outbreak cases reported by medical institutions and institutions for dis-ease control at the district level．And statistical analysis was conducted on the surveillance data from epidemic outbreak surveillance system in the City of Shenzhen in 2005．Results In 2005，epidemic outbreak in Shenzhen mainly composed of Influenza，Varicella and epidemic Parotitis．High attention should be paid on the epidemic outbreak in collective institutions such as kinder- gartens，primary and middle schools etc．Spring and winter were two seasons with highest pmba-bility of the incidence of communicable disease outbreak， which wasn't completely identical with time distribution of the incidence of notifiable communicable epidemic Outbreak．Conclusion It'S a feasible way in prevention and control of communicable disease to conduct epidemic outbreak surveillance with the aid of computer information technology and adequate use of National Infor-mation System for Disease Control and Prevention．The essential goal of communicable disease outbreak surveillance is to implement high-efficiency and timely control of epidemic situation and health education according to the surveillance results of cluster features of communicable disease．
