An investigation of knowledge about AIDS prevention and control among medical staff in the City of Tai'an

  • Objective This investigation was made to understand the awareness of medical staff in medical facilities at different levels of knowledge about AIDS prevention and control for the provision of a basis on which to formulate scientific measures for AIDS prevention and control. Methods 750 medical personnel at different posts in medical facilities at different levels were selected for an on- the- spot anonymous questionnaire investigation. Results The investigation showed that the average awareness rate of AIDS knowledge was 62.05% among medical personnel at different levels. 98.13% of the subjects knew about the pathogen causing AIDS, with the awareness rate being highest. Only 12.13% of all the investigated knew about the responsible epidemic reporter stipulated in the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases with a lowest awareness rate. Conclusion The knowledge of medical personnel at different levels about the preven- tion and control of AIDS is inadequate. Therefore, professional training should be strengthened among medical personnel.
