Epidemiological analysis on malaria in focally supervised counties in Zhejiang Province in 2006

  • Objective The study provided an insight into the current epidemiological characteristics of malaria in Zhejiang Province by analyzing the malaria epidemic in focally supervised counties (cities, districts)in Zhejiang in 2006,in favor of the development of new control strategies. Methods Three feverpatients were required to receive blood test.Epidemiological case investigation was performed for malaria patients, with the malaria media indentified and classified.Monitoring of malaria antibody was conducted for some of the patients. Results There were 145 malaria patients from 15 focally supervised counties(cities, districts),with the annual incidence being 1.76/lakh.Blood test revealed 34 cases of positive plasmodium with the positive rate of 0.16%;and 111 cases of positive plasmodium among floating population, with the positive rate being 2.28%.Local infected patients accounted for 14.48% of the total cases, while the import cases for 85.52%.Immigrant patients accounted for 89.52% of the import cases, and local travelers for 10.48%.Conclusion A rising trend by year of import malaria cases in the floating population was found in the study.Hence,it was necessary to formulate anti-malaria measures adaptable to the new circumstances to intensify the surveillance of malaria.
