Epidemiological analysis on 12 cases of pneumonia with unknown etiology in Guangdong Province

  • Objective This study was conducted to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of pneumonia with unknown etiology so as to know better about the disease for the improvement of the quality of its surveillance.Methods Surveillance was performed following theNational Surveillance Program of UEP Cases(trial),with case study done for each case found.Results A total of 12 cases of unknown etiology of pneumonia were reported in Guangdong province from Oct.2005 to Sep.2006 through direct network system,including 2 cases of infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1),with no cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome,(SARS)and other grave respiratory tract diseases found.Conclusion UEP surveillance is an important approach to screening and finding grave respiratory tract diseases.Therefore,it is of great positive significance for the prevention and control of grave respiratory diseases to strengthen UEP surveillance.
