Seroepidemiological investigation of Leptospirosis in Hunan Province in 2006

  • Objective The study was conducted to investigate the dominating serogroups and the distribution of the epidemic of leptospirosis in Hunan, providing scientific evidence for disease control.Methods Sera of healthy people were collected at seven surveillance spots, serous antibodies testedwith the MAT and the analysis carried out with the SPSS 13.0. Results The overall positive rate of leptospirosis antibodies was 60.41%, and the rate of men and women were respectively 65.48% and56.63%(P0.05). The 10 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and older age groups had thepositive rates of 34.26%, 60.00%, 67.57%, 70.27% and 62.43%(P0.05), respectively. The overallpositive rates in Liuyang City, Yuanjiang City, Shaodong, Shuangfeng, Ningxiang County, Zhuzhouand Xiangtan County were 81.00%, 71.96%, 69.31%, 68.00%, 58.59%, 39.39% and 37.82% (P0.05),respectively. The positive rates of lai, linhai, autumnalis, ausstralis, ballum, canicola, pomona,cingshui, hebdomadis and wolffi serotypes were 35.86%, 27.45%, 19.03%, 16.97%, 15.17%, 11.31%,8.97%, 6.07%, 4.69% and 1.93%(P0.05), respectively. Conclusion The Lai, Linhai and Autumnalis constitute the dominating serotypes. Statistical differences exist between the geographical, age andgender distributions
