Epidemiological analysis on the ambulatory surveillance cases with injuries in Cixi City

  • Objective The present study was conducted to get the knowledge of the epidemiological characteristics and rules of the ambulatory surveillance cases with injuries and provide the scientific data for prevention and control of injuries. Methods One hospital at the level of county, one health center in central town, and one health center in village were sampled by stratified random sampling. The patients who were first diagnosed as injuries at ambulatory clinics from July 1st, 2004 to June 30th, 2005 were enrolled as the research objectives. Results 15 808 cases of injuries were reported, the sex ratio of male and female cases was 1.92:1, the average age was 33.7317.06, and cases aged from 15 to 59 covered 79.8%. The first four vocations were peasants, workers, students, and job-waiting/laid-off workers in turn. Injuries mainly happened in the roads/streets, work places, homes and schools. During traveling, working, and sports, injuries were easy to happen. The time when injuries happened was mainly from 9:20 to 20:00. The reasons for injuries were traffic accidents, animal bite wounds, blunt trauma wounds, and falling, of which the most injuries were unintentional. 66 cases with injures at ambulatory clinics were dead, among which 53.0% died from traffic accidents. Conclusion The emphases to intervene injures should be traffic injuries, dog bite wounds, vocational injuries, and children's injuries in the city.
