Epidemiological investigation on hypertension in Hangzhou City in 2005

Objective The present investigaton was conducted to gain insight into the epidemic status of hypertension in Hangzhou City. Methods The multi-stage random sampling was used to select two counties and cities respectively from the countryside and cities of Hangzhou. In each county (city), 400 residents were picked for the hypertension epidemiological study, and SPSS 11.5 software was used for statistical analysis. Results The prevalence rate of hypertension was 29.13%. It increases with age, education, urban and rural area, body mass index and so on. Conclusion The prevalence rate of hypertension in Hangzhou was at a relatively high level. Meanwhile, it is also necessary for the population over the age of 35 to receive the first blood pressure tests and early hypertension screening.
