Abstract
Objective The investigation was conducted to understand the causes of deathes and their characteristics at Guilin's disease surveillance points as strategic evidence for disease control. Methods A disease surveillance system was established to analyze the monitored data from 1998 to 2004 by descriptive epidemiology, and statistics was done by Excel. Results The average death rate of people at guilin's disease surveillance points was 528.89/lakh and standardized rate 593.93/lakh, and the proportion of men to women was 1.3∶1. Their average life was 74.13 years while men had 71.55 and women 77.06. In all death causes, infections, chronic diseases and injuries made up the proportion of 1∶14.45∶1.08. The top five death causes were cardiovascular disease (225.23/lakh), tumor (149.95/lakh), accident (34.51/lakh), chronic respiratory disease (28.23/lakh) and disease digestive system (19.45/lakh). Conclusion Chronic diseases and accidences are the main causes that threaten people's health. Health education and advance work should be made to reduce incidence and accidence. Meanwhile, control of infectious and transmissible diseases is still an important part in public health.
