Analysis on the results of HIV voluntary counseling and testing(VCT)in Shaoxing City in 2005

  • Objective This study was designed to investigate the voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) in Shaoxing, and to recognize HIV infected people timely, which will provide important information for HIV prevention, mental support and care. Methods Medical professionals will investigate via anonymous interview with the inquiring subjects, and the latter will decide for himself whether to receive HIV-antibody test or not, and statistical analysis will be made on inquiries and test results. Results There were 1017 cases of voluntary counseling, mainly from young men in Shaoxing City. 73.55% inquiring subjects came to consult high risk behaviors, and 97.84% performed HIV antibody test and 2 cases were positive. 76.50% had a regular sexual partners and the condom use rate is 9.14%. Conclusion Propaganda should be strengthened to develop voluntary counseling and testing effectively, and to prevent HIV infecton.
