Abstract
Objective The present analysis was made to gain an insight into the epidemiological characteristics of 360 cases of non-bacterial meningitis in order to provide evidences for understanding the epidemiological trends of non-bacterial meningitis in Quzhou City and the surveillance for the disease. Methods 360 cases of non-bacterial meningitis were selected from January 1 to December 31, 2005 in a general hospital in Quzhou City. The epidemiological characteristics of the cases were analyzed using a descriptive method. The cerebrospindal fluids of some cases were collected for culture of the virus. Results Most of the cases were in Ke-Cheng district, the peak time of incidence was from May to July, and most of the patients were children under 15 years, the sex ratio of male to female was 1.63∶1. 2 cases of intestinal virus were isolated from 40 cerebrospindal fluid specimens, and isolation rate was 5%; the average duration in hospital was 5.7 days, with a good prognosis. Conclusion The non-bacterial meningitis often attacks young children and indicates an obvious seasonal peak, most of which have no definitive antigen diagnosis, so we should further strengthen the surveillance of the diseases.
