Epidemiological analysis of STD in Daxing District of Beijing in 2005

Abstract
Objective This investigation was conducted to find out the trends of incidence and prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases in Daxing District for the provision of a scientific basis for formulating strategies for the prevention and control of the diseases. Methods Meta-analysis of annual (quarter) reports on the epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases in the whole district was carried out. Results A total of 443 cases of 5 kinds of STD were reported in Daxing District in 2005 including NGU, gonorrhea, condylomata acuminata, syphilis, genital herpes and other sexually transmitted diseases, being 10.87% lower than the number of the cases in 2004. The spectrum of the diseases changed, with condylomata acuminata ranking the first. Men and women were affected not by the same kinds of STD, men mostly affected by gonorrhea while women mostly by syphilis. The number of reported cases of STD from those at the age of 20-39 years who were sexually active was the largest, accounting for 70.65% of the total cases. Conclusion Reported cases of STD in Daxing district in 2005 were lower than those in 2004, but the incidence of some diseases still present a rising tendency, particularly STD with genital ulceration, which should be taken seriously.
