Survey of prevalence of HIV infection among blood donors in Zhejiang Province from 2003 to 2005

  • Objective The present study was conducted to estimate the prevalence rate of HIV infection among blood donors and to find out the high risk factors. Methods 1 476 492 blood donors were screened in Zhejiang Province from 2003 to 2005. The positive samples were confirmed by Zhejiang Center of Disease Control and Prevention. Results Among 1 476 492 blood donors, 50 were identified as HIV positive. The HIV prevalence rate was approximately 0.0034%, and the positive screening rate was 0.1139%. The false positive rate was approximately 97.0273%. Conclusion The prevalence rate of HIV infection among blood donors in Zhejiang Province was similar to developed countries, but it was increasing continuously. We should take measures to prevent further transmision HIV of through blood donors.
