Analysis of deaths caused by gastric cancer in Cixi City of Zhejiang Province from 1995 to 2004

Objective This study was conducted to analyze the deaths caused by gastric cancer in Cixi City from 1995 to 2004 for further scientific prevention and treatment. Methods The collected data of death caused by gastric cancer were analyzed in accordance with International Classification Code. Results The crude mortality of gastric cancer in the city was 34.084/lakh during the time from 1995 to 2004, the standardized mortality 31.407/lakh; the sex ratio was 1.897∶1. The mortality of gastric cancer was ranked the third among all kinds of cancer. Conclusion The mortality of gastric cancer among residents that lived in Cixi City from 1995 to 2004 was at the high level in the country, and no obvious declining trend was presented, which suggested the prevention and treatment for this disease be strengthened.
