Epidemiological analysis of epidemic parotitis in China from 2004 to 2006

Objective The study was conducted to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of epidemic parotitis in China(Hong Kong,Macau and Taiwan excluded)from 2004 to 2006 and to provide basic data for epidemic parotitis immunization plan.Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data of epidemic parotitis from National Notifiable Disease Reporting System from 2004 to 2006.Results Parotitis cases were respectively 227 724,293 181,273 242 from 2004 to 2006 in China,the annual incidence rate being about 20/lakh.Spring was the high incidence season.Over 80% cases occurred in infants and pre-school children.Conclusion It is recommended that the measles-rubella-parotitis combined vaccine brought into EPI and the surveillance of parotitis and infectious sources strengthened.
