Analysis on suicide mortality of residents in Kunming in 2004

Objective This study was conducted to analyze the present status and causes of residents' suicide in Kunming and to provide effective preventive strategies.Methods 1134 death cases of suicide in Kunming were investigated and analyzed in 2004 according to ICD-10 using DEATHREG2005,the statistical analytic software for death causes.Results The mortality rate of suicide was 20.44/lakh in Kunming,2004.The mortality rates of male and female suicide were 20.64/lakh and 20.14/lakh,respectively,without significant difference.The mortality rate in rural areas was 5.79 times than that in the city.Pesticide was mostly used for suicide.Conclusion It is required to strengthen the comprehensive control and prevention of suicide in order to reduce the mortality rate of suicide in Kunming.
