Investigation on the accuracy of reports and diagnoses of major notifiable infectious diseases in Liuzhou, Guangxi

  • Objective The investigation and analysis were made to better understand the accuracy of diagnoses and reports of major notifiable infectious diseases in administrative districts of Liuzhou Municipality for providing references for further improvement and standardization of epidemic situation report management. Methods Stratified sampling was applied and the accuracy of diagnoses was evaluated according to the National Criterion for the Diagnosis of Notifiable Infectious Diseases. Results A total of 1349 cases(9 classes) of notifiable infectious diseases were investigated, of whom 966 cases were diagnosed correctly with the rate of accurate diagnosis being 71.61%. A total of 710 cases were classified correctly with a classification accordance rate of 73.50%. The lowest accuracy rate of diagnosis was obtained for hepatitis A, with TB and gonorrhea having a higher rate. The accordance rate of classification was the lowest for typhoid and paratyphoid, with hepatitis A and TB having a higher rate. The accuracy rate and the accordance rate of diagnosis of the diseases in urban hospitals were 87.92% and 67.71%, respectively, and in suburb and county hospitals were 62.82% and 77.86%, respectively, being lower in the accuracy rate but higher in the accordance rate in the suburb and county hospitals than in the urban hospitals. Conclusion The diagnostic accuracy of notifiable infectious diseases in medical facilities of Liuzhou City was low with wrong and over reports being common occurrences, which led to the sustained high incidence rate of notifiable infectious diseases in the whole city in recent years, negatively influencing the making of strategies for the prevention and control of the notifiable infectious diseases
