A sero epidemiological study on hepatitis B among general population in Yuyao city, Zhejiang province

Objective　The study was conducted to investigate the infection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in general population in Yuyao city, providing evidence for the development of local prevention and control strategies. Methods　A randomized cluster sample of general population in Yuyao aged from 1 to 59 years was surveyed using questionnaires on hepatitis B immunization history and main risk factors．Venous blood samples were collected and tested for hepatitis B serological antigens and antibodies through ELISA． Results　The prevalence rates of HBsAg, anti HBs, anti HBc and total HBV infection rate were 5.35％（95%CI：4.15-6.55 ）, 54.68％（95%CI： 52.02-57.34）, 35.88％（95%CI：33.32-38.44） and 36.62％（95%CI：34.05-39.19） respectively. The age standardized rates were 7.46%, 51.55%, 48.13% and 48.92%, respectively. Conclusion　Achievement in hepatitis B control and prevention has been made in Yuyao．The positive rate of hepatitis B surface antigen has decreased to below 1％ among children aged under 5 years and below 5.5% in general population．
