  • Objective The study was conducted to determine the measles epidemiology and the incidence patterns in Xishan district of Wuxi city, discuss the priority of measles control and effective control measures. Methods The retrospectively analysis was conducted on the all laboratory and clinical confirmed measles cases from 2001 to 2007 by descriptive epidemiological method. Results Measles cases occurred in a Sporadic pattern in Xishan district from 2001 to 2007. The incidence in floating population was higher than that in local population, which accounted for 60.33% of the total cases. The highest incidence rate was found in the areas where immigrant population lived. Measles mainly occurred during February to May with a double-peak, The cases among the people aged <5 and >20 years accounted for 79.89% of the total cases. Conclusion Relatively stable incidence rate of measles was observed in Xishan district with a bipolar shift pattern of the age when disease occurred. Therefore, it is essential to control measles among the floating population, provide measles vaccination for farmer labourers and their children, and the measles vaccination is recommended for adolescent women.
