Culture and drug susceptibility results of 2456  cases of genitourinary tract infection with Mycoplasma

  • Objective The study was conducted to investigate the current status of genitourinary tract infection with Mcoplasma in Putian city, Fujian province, and evaluate the drug susceptibilities of Ureaplasma urealyticum (Uu) and Mycoplasma hominis (Mh) to different antibiotics. Methods Drug susceptibility test of cultured Uu and Mh were performed by using quantitative testing kits. Growth of Uu and Mh could lead to the decomposition of urea and arginine elevated pH, and change the colour of medium from yellow to red, which indicated positive results. Antibiotics in the medium which could inhibit the growth of gram-positive (G+) and gram-negative (G-) bacteria as well as fungus were with susceptibility. Results A total of 2456 strains of Mycoplasma (46.7%) were cultured among 5260 subjects, including 1343 strains of Uu (25.5%) and 635 strains of Mh (12.1%), 478 strains of Uu+Mh (9.1%). The positive rates of men and women were 23.8% and 56.4%, respectively. Mycoplasma were found highly sensitive to josamycin (88.9%), minocycline (75.3%), and doxycycline (72.3%), and resistant to roxithromycin (65.6%), azithromycin (55.3%), and lincomycin (51.1%). Conclusion The local positive rate of Mcoplasma infection was similar to that in other part of the country, but with significant higher positive rates in women, and the positive rate in women was higher than that in men. Uu was sensitive to Josamycin and minocycline in turn, while Mh was sensitive to minocycline and josamycin.
