Analysis of surveillance data of nosocomial infections in Shaoxing city, 1999-2006

  • Objective The study was conducted to evaluate the performance of nosocomial infection surveillance, provide the evidence for the control of nosocomial infections. Methods Nosocomial infection surveillance was conducted among the hospitalized patients during 1999 to 2006. Results During this 8-year period, a total of 220 054 hospitalized patients were under the surveillance, 12 196 cases of nosocomial infection were found with the overall infection rate of 5.5%. The annual nosocomial infection rate ranged from 4.6% to 7.1% with a decline trend over time. The rate of underreport of nosocomial infection also declined. Conclusion Targeted surveillance of nosocomial infections of high-risk groups should be conducted.
