  • Objective To characterize the epidemiology of measles in Zhengzhou in 2007 and provide the evidence for the measles elimination strategies. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data of measles cases in Zhengzhou, 2007 which was collected from the National EPI Information Management System. Results A total of 1195 measles cases were confirmed in Zhengzhou, 2007, which mainly occurred during January - May. The incidence among the children of 7 years was high and the highest incidences were found among the children aged 8 months and 8 months to 1 years (272 cases, respectively), accounting for 22.76% respectively of the total cases. The cases without vaccination history or unknown vaccination history accounted for 84.85%, and the cases among the floating population accounted for 28.45%. Conclusion The infants aged 8 months are the priority population for the measles control. It is urgent to strengthen the routine primary vaccination among younger age children and revaccination among older age children, increase measles vaccine coverage among the children in immigrant population and improve the measles surveillance in order to prevent and control measles outbreak.
