Detection of HIV among 66 women from border provinces and foreign countries residing in a county of Henan

  • The study was conducted to determine the HIV infections among women from border provinces or expatriate women currently living in some county for the improvement of AIDS prevention and control work. The investigation of these women married into the county residents was conducted based on the collected data from the police station, township, village and other clues. HIV antibody testing was performed with 3 ml intravenous blood of each participant. As a result, 4 positive cases were found from 66 blood samples, although findings from the testing of 48 blood samples from their male spouses and 4 samples from offspring showed no evidence of HIV infections. Since higher infection rates were detected among women from border provinces or foreign countries married into the county residents, intensive attention should be paid to the prevention and management of HIV infections among these people as well as their spouses and children.
