Serological surveillance on brucellosis in both human and livestock

  • Objective This study aimed to reveal the correlation between the infection rate of brucella in livestock and that in the corresponding professional population. Methods Sampling survey was carried out in 6 natural villages in Tianzhen county. Serological test results were analyzed to find out the relationship. Results The analysis resulted in a linear regression formula of ■=9.866+18.54x, which showed a significant positive linear correlation between the infection rate of brucella in livestock and that in people(r =0.884 25, P=0.01930.05). Conclusion Serological surveillance for brucellosis in livestock can be used to predict the epidemic situation, while the infection rate in livestock can serve as an early warning signal of this disease. Tighter control of the infection in livestock is a primary step to achieve better control of the infection in the professional population.
