Investigation and management of four patients with imported dengue fever

  • Objective The study was conducted to analyze the clinical features and epidemiological characteristics of imported dengue fever confirmed in four patients in Huzhou city.Methods A retrospective descriptive epidemiological investigation was conducted to analyze and evaluate the process of discovery, diagnosis and management of imported dengue fever in four patients.Results The common manifestations included fever, skin rash or pinpoint hemorrhagic spots(4/4), muscular soreness(3/4) and swollen superficial lymph nodes (1/4). Vaginal bleeding was seen in the 2 female patients. All patients had decreased white cell counts and platelet counts and positive dengue-specific IgM antibodies,as shown by laboratory tests.History of personal or business trip to Southeast Asia was confirmed in all patients,and 3 of them had been exposed to mosquito bites (the other not known); one patient had had contact with suspected patient. Conclusion Imported dengue fever was confirmed in these 4 patients through laboratory tests. Discovered in time and properly treated,the patients were cured,and no secondary cases ensued after effective prevention and control measures were performed.
