Epidemiological investigation of an outbreak of paratyphoid C

  • Objective The study was conducted to identify the epidemiological characteristics and influential factors of the paratyphoid C outbreak in Nanan district, Chongqing. Methods Field epidemiological investigation was conducted. Results A total of 59 cases(34 laboratory-confirmed and 25 clinically established) were found in the epidemic outbreak without death cases. The attack rate was 49.6 percent. 16 carriers were found, the infection rate being 63.0 percent. All infected patients were found to have attended the dinner in a same restaurant. Conclusion The epidemic was confirmed to be a paratyphoid C outbreak as a result of food contamination.
