  • Objective This investigation was conducted to provide assessment of physical exercise and sleeping conditions of high schools students in Zhejiang province. Methods The survey was based on self management questionnaires responded by a multi staged cluster randomized sample of 11 638 middle school students from 249 classes in 221 schools over 30 counties in the province. Results For the past 7 days, 38.73% of students had physically exercised in a vigorous manner for 20min each day over a 3 day period; 28.89% of students had exercised in a moderate manner for 30min each day over a 5 day period.Meanwhile, 18.76% of junior high school students had participated in physical education (PE) classes more than three times a week, and 90.87% of ordinary high school students and 71.37% of unordinary high school students had attended PE classes more than twice a week. The average sleeping duration of the students was 8.51 hours per day, junior high school students accounting for 8.79 hours, ordinary high school students 7.91 hours, and unordinary high school students 8.69 hours. Conclusion Considerations should be given by relevant departments to deficient intensity and duration of physical activities and inadequate sleeping length in high school students in Zhejiang province.
